How the Tournament came to be

In 1997, after I returned from an 8 year hiatus in Japan, the Golf Extravaganza was established as a way of getting a group of friends together as it had become increasingly difficult to stay in touch over the years.

The idea of the Golf Extravaganza was born one fine spring day in April 1997 as I was golfing with a friend from university, Mr. Kevin Healy, who I had lost contact with during my days across the pond. He and I contacted friends from University, high school, etc. and it was decided that we would head over to Vancouver Island to play some golf at 3 golf courses and perhaps enjoy a pint or two along the way. For the first few years the Golf Extravaganza was held at courses on Vancouver Island and has since made it's way to the mainland. Since those early years, another friend from university, Mr. Tony Bacchus, (who has also joined the events from day one) has become the main person all of us rely on to put this yearly event together. If it wasn't for him this yearly event would probably have faded away long ago. For all of his hard work we owe him a great deal of gratitude.
The early years saw numbers as low as 8-10 members but that has grown to the point where it is now consistently around the 20 mark and we have in fact had a group of friends from the 'U.S. of A' join us. They are endearingly known as 'Team America'.

We have recently started golfing in Palm Springs for a new Experience. All of us look forward to this yearly event as we go into our 13th Anniversary for Golf Extravaganza.

Thanks and best regards,
Robert Wruck
